- if you apply strategy to portfolio and backtest it, it can happen,
that PB says: "tried to reference more bars back..."
within PB (portfolio backtester) you can't change those settings
(or change an input parameter). you need to open MC, attach
signal to same symbol as in PB and then to change properties of
signal. after this you need to close MC. to much action if you ask me.
- why don't drop this annoying "bar referencing". if you detect more
bars needed, just move offset forward.
- if not possible to drop "bar referencing..", allow to set ALL signal properties
with one and same dialog (best in PL editor, where you create signals
- it seems that you have perpared this here. but it is not complete).
when you attach a signal to a chart, you find those property values
as default.
- showing charts in general
if you are not connected to your datasource (at least with IB), you get no data
for your charts. the only chance is to switch MC to offline mode (preferences). in order to this, you need to close all charts first.
TS shows charts, regardless if connected or not. it
is also possible to backtest, regardless if connected or not.
it is hardly to understand why MC is not able to immediately put those data to charts that are available in database and is able to operate even when
requesting and waiting for actual data...
there should be no difference in handling if you are connected or not,
or if you collect RT data or not.
MC team: please do not a step back here.

Not true. You don't need to do any of the above. Simply change the setting from Portfolio -> Strategy -> Show Properties.- if you apply strategy to portfolio and backtest it, it can happen,

A strategy can be comprised of a number of signals. Each signal can require a different number of bars back to be calculated, but the strategy is calculated as a whole. Therefore, this parameter is set up from a single dialogue - Strategy Properties.- why don't drop this annoying "bar referencing". if you detect more
bars needed, just move offset forward.

The online mode presupposes some kind of interaction with the provider. But if the provider cannot be accessed at all (when TWS can't be brought up over the weekend) no interaction naturally occurs. In this situation, you need to be in the offline mode. I am not sure why you find it hard to first bring up MC and switch the online mode on and only after that open your charts.- showing charts in general
